If we look around ourselves, there are a lot of objects around us whether it be the chair you sited, the computer mouse you touched, a bottle of water, the car you drive or some decorative sculpture in your house and many more. Basically, it is any manmade thins that can see and touch.

According to the articles, I can categorize objects into two groups which are art objects and a design object. These two types of objects are created for different purposes. The first one is “Design object” which is created by designers that mainly focus on the design and function. From the ‘Useful object’ article, every object has a different function but it follows a similar design process that starts with the problem, designs the first product, and develops it to fit with people needed. The key to designing the object is useful, easy to use, and has an affordable price for people. Importantly, it created to solve the problem and make people’s life easier. On the other hand, “Art Object”, objects in this group are created, selected, named, signed, or displayed by an artist. The object can create with or without function. It’s just created to meet the purpose of the artist. For example, “In Advance of the Broken Arm” by Duchamp, he just hangs the snow shovel from the ceiling and called it art. Moreover, this information about the object from the ‘Useful object’ article and Marcel Duchamp can show that the object doesn’t need to have the function.

Since there are millions of objects in the world so people give different priorities and values on them. There are two types of value which are price value and sentimental value. For example, an object will have a high price when they are limited and many people want them. On the other hand, it will priceless when a few people want them. Moreover, sentimental Value can happen with every object both art object and design object. It bases on relationships or background story of them and person.

For me there are three reasons that make me giving value and interest in objects which are function, colors, and design. Personally, I interesting in colors and design. The most object that I always look for when I go to any place or shop is the object that has a good combination of colors. I notice myself that when I quickly scan the ‘Useful object’ article, the first picture that catches my eyes is the “X-Shaped Rubber Band” because they are colorful. Next point that I concern is its function, I usually want to know why the designer put the element on each place on the object and want to know the design process. I personally enjoy reading the ‘Useful object’ article because there are many interesting design processes of the various object that I have seen before but don’t know about its design process.
